Commissioners hear update that VDOT Route 7/690 interchange shows permit delays and a large budget variance

The commission discussed the Route 7/690 interchange project after the chair reviewed VDOT's online dashboard, saying the town's tracking shows permitting and right-of-way milestones in red. "They show obtained permits and milestones are 673 days past the expected completion date," the chair said, adding that "the budget estimate has a variance now of almost 72%."
Commissioners and staff discussed the number of agencies involved (including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state permitting bodies) and asked the town manager and staff to follow up with the county and VDOT to clarify scheduling, permitting status and budget assumptions. Staff said they would include project layers on the town's web map so the public can track progress.
