Abilene Zoo announces new giraffe and lemur births, new exhibits and Paw Patrol visit

Jesse Popam, the zoo director, told the Parks Board that the zoo has seen recent births and ongoing construction. "We just had our last baby giraffe for the season born from Malaika, who's the mom," Popam said, adding that Malaika was born at the Abilene Zoo and this calf is her second. Popam also reported the zoo's first black-and-white lemur birth and described safety staging for the infant.
Popam gave a construction update on several exhibits — a bandshell, a two-story café, hyena and cheetah warm-holding buildings, a lion habitat holding area and demolition of the former elephant barn — and said the project remains on schedule despite rain. He also announced a Paw Patrol appearance at the zoo on Aug. 29 as a members-included event.
