Resident urges lower rec-center fees and a nonprofit rate

Samuel Garcia, a resident who identified himself as living at 2734 Brentwood, urged the Parks and Recreation Board to review its pricing for recreation facilities and to create a nonprofit rate.
"This is government owned. This is for the citizens," Garcia said, arguing that bond and tax dollars paid for the facilities and that fees should not be treated as market-driven charges. He described running community giveaways and said he had been told there is currently no nonprofit rate available. Garcia asked the board to "take a look at your pricing" and place the issue on a future agenda for discussion.
Board members acknowledged the concern during the public comment period but did not take action on fees at the meeting. The chair closed general public comment after Garcia's remarks and moved the agenda forward.
