Mayor Travis Mote told the council that some gravel had been removed from the city's gravel pit without permission and proposed selling the remaining gravel to Granite Construction, using proceeds to develop a trailhead and park area.
Councilmembers expressed general agreement with exploring the idea and asked staff to look into jurisdictional and permitting issues. Council Member Rex Christensen earlier noted the gravel pit’s slope monitoring and clarified the pit falls under county and state jurisdiction; the city will need to coordinate with those agencies as it considers options.
