During public comment at the Truth in Taxation hearing, a resident the mayor asked to speak — identified in discussion as Mr. Howard (speaker 5) — told the council he opposed property tax increases and warned of personal hardship from higher levies. "Next year, my property taxes will be higher than my mortgage," he said, adding more sharply: "I think property taxes are the most immoral tax there is."
The comment was one of the only public statements recorded at the hearing; the council closed the public-comment portion after Mr. Howard’s remarks and returned to staff-led budget discussion. Councilmembers acknowledged the burden on homeowners while stressing the hearing was for comment and that any final action would occur at a later meeting.
