Firefighters honored after restaurant choking rescue

The South Pine City Council recognized a four-person fire crew for an emergency response on March 21 in which team members performed CPR and relieved an airway obstruction on an elderly restaurant patron.
"When they arrived on scene, they found an elderly gentleman that was unresponsive, choking on a piece of food with no breathing and no pulse," said the fire chief, who introduced the crew. "By the time they left the scene, he was waking up." The council presented a certificate of excellence and a small gift card to the crew members present and noted two members were on vacation and could be honored later.
Staff credited fast dispatch—units arrived within three minutes of the 911 call—and coordination with Ogden City medics for the positive outcome. The council used the recognition moment to thank on-duty responders for life-saving actions that prevented a likely fatal outcome.
