Mayor (speaker 1) told the council that recreation staff Hannah Miller and Parks Director Philip Swept applied CPR and used an AED on a pickleball player who suffered a 'widow maker' heart attack; the staff action kept the player alive until paramedics arrived. The mayor praised the staff's training and readiness during a public recognition.
The mayor also introduced the Latin Advisory Committee, listed executive board members (Jazara Best, Nilsie LaPalo, Kira Husser) and board officers (Lydia Cotton, Miriam Martinez, Laura Blaine), and said the committee will work with the city's PIO and police department to bridge language and cultural barriers, improve emergency communications, and increase community participation in city services.
Council and the mayor encouraged leveraging the committee's work for outreach on emergency preparedness, recreation programs and other city services, and thanked the group for their volunteer efforts.
