Town wins $2.1M Brownfield grant for Riverwalk; library donor pledge could accelerate expansion

The town manager announced the award of a Brownfield remediation grant for the Riverwalk area and said the town expects to receive $2,100,000 for cleanup of contamination from old mills. "We will be receiving, $2,100,000," the manager (speaker 2) said when announcing the grant. He added that the grant does not include follow-on amenity funding and that the town budgeted some capital-reserve money last year in anticipation of later phases; staff expect to be ready to disburse funds once Brownfield grant processes conclude.
Separately, the manager said the library has a donor who will commit an estimated $400,000–$500,000 if the project shows substantial progress by the deadline (he cited a late-December milestone). Committee members welcomed both developments and asked staff to coordinate capital-reserve planning with the forthcoming grant and donor conditions.
