Builder: unique topography and screening shaped Kaufman design choices
Summary
Jeff Memmer of Memmer Homes described the Kaufman Residence as a large custom home on a roughly 5-acre, steeply sloped lot with a cliff and floodplain; he said the garage configuration (three 10-foot doors and one 8-foot door) matched the house scale and was largely screened from view.

Jeff Memmer, representing Memmer Homes and the Kaufman project, described the site and the design choices behind the requested variances. He said the applicants engaged architects and planners to respond to steep topography, a cliff, and floodplain constraints, and that the home and garage sizing were selected to match the house massing and to provide adequate vehicular turning and maneuvering.
Memmer noted the garage arrangement results in a 38-foot combined width (three 10-foot doors and one 8-foot door), and said the garages are largely shielded by mature vegetation and are not readily visible from the public right-of-way. He thanked staff members by name for their assistance through the review process.
