Residents press council on West Innovation District, waivers and transparency

Several residents used the public-comment portion of the Jan. 5 Dublin City Council meeting to criticize city planning and the handling of recent development items, particularly the West Innovation District (WID) and Bridge Street-area waivers.
Dan Hammel told council that "the communication with the public regarding planning of the WID was less than adequate," listing three examples where he said residents felt blindsided by staff and council actions. Diane Cardellano and Victoria McDonald, both representing neighborhoods near Martin Road and Shire Rings, urged council to uphold existing code limits, questioned tree removal and noise impacts from proposed projects, and asked that staff align future actions with prior community plans rather than pursue industrial rezoning without additional resident engagement. "Goal 4 of catalyzing economic development in the West Innovation District does not have the backing of residents," McDonald said.
