The City of Florence board met in executive session Feb. 3 to discuss personnel matters in the Street Department. Acting on the recommendation of Street Director David Myers, the board voted to hire Patrick James as a street maintenance employee at $15.00 per hour with a 90-day probationary period beginning Feb. 9, 2026; the hire is contingent on a successful background check and drug and alcohol testing. The motion was made by Alderman Brent Sistrunk and seconded by Alderman Kyle Martin and carried with three ayes; Aldermen John Banks and Brian Grantham were absent.
In the same executive session, the board approved promoting street employee Tyler Hayes to Assistant Street Director with an immediate hourly-pay increase of $1.25. That motion (moved by Alderman Brent Sistrunk and seconded by Alderman Mason Herrin) carried with three ayes; Banks and Grantham were recorded as absent. The board returned to regular session at 6:50 p.m. and adjourned the meeting.
