Coryell County updates volunteer fire department agreements, softens reporting requirement

The Coryell County Commissioners Court reviewed updated agreements for volunteer fire departments that require monthly reporting in county‑funded software and include potential withholding of funds for noncompliance.

County staff explained the templates reinforce submission of monthly reports and will help the court track where and when fire responses occur. The judge noted the software provides data on incident types and timing and that missing or inconsistent reports may trigger withholding under current audit provisions. One commissioner asked to change the mandatory language; the court agreed to alter the contract wording from "shall" to "may" for monthly reporting to give departments latitude in extenuating circumstances.

Commissioners discussed user challenges with a new reporting platform and noted some departments assign a person to enter data; staff said completed templates and dollar amounts will be finalized and contracts distributed within days. The court approved the updated agreement language and directed staff to prepare the individualized contracts for each volunteer department.
