Florence hires two public-works maintenance workers after executive session

The Florence Mayor and Board voted in executive session Dec. 16 to hire two maintenance workers for the Public Works Department.
On recommendation of Water/Sewer Operator Billy Russell, Alderman Brent Sistrunk moved — and the board approved — hiring Eathan Peden at $18.00 per hour starting Dec. 17, 2025, pending a successful background check and drug and alcohol testing, with a 90-day probation period. The motion recorded unanimous votes: John Banks Aye; Brian Grantham Aye; Mason Herrin Aye; Kyle Martin Aye; Brent Sistrunk Aye.
A separate executive-session motion (moved by Alderman John Banks and seconded by Alderman Mason Herrin) approved hiring Logan Ledford under the same terms: $18.00 per hour starting Dec. 17, 2025, pending background and drug/alcohol testing, with a 90-day probation period. The vote on that hire was also unanimous.
Both hires are contingent on successful pre-employment checks; the board returned to open session at 7:12 p.m. and adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
