Florence board declares Stonebrook sewer assessment an emergency, directs engineer to inspect system

"[Authorize] and direct City engineer Tim Parker to assess the sewer system servicing Stonebrook Subdivision and make a recommendation as to necessary repairs, and to declare same an emergency repair in order to protect the community due to the possibility of raw sewage leakage in the area," Alderman John Banks moved on the recommendation of Water/Sewer Operator Billy Russell; the motion carried unanimously. City Engineer Tim Parker was directed to deliver recommendations for repairs and next steps.
Why it matters: declaring the situation an emergency allows the city to move more rapidly on repairs and to use emergency procurement and contracting procedures as allowed by state law. The board did not set a project budget in the meeting; staff were asked to return with diagnostic findings and cost estimates before work begins.
