Florence hires new police officer and water/sewer operator after executive session

In executive session Nov. 18, the Florence Mayor and Board hired two new municipal employees. On recommendation of Chief Brad Burns, the board voted to hire Jeffery Smith as a full‑time police officer at $21.06 per hour effective Dec. 1, 2025, pending successful background and drug/alcohol testing.
Also in executive session and on recommendation of Mayor Trey Gunn, the board approved hiring Billy Russell as a water/sewer operator at an annual salary of $95,000, effective Dec. 1, 2025. Both appointments were approved by Aldermen Mason Herrin, Kyle Martin and Brent Sistrunk; Aldermen John Banks and Brian Grantham were absent for the recorded roll calls.
