At the Feb. 12 listening session, Jefferson Hill residents discussed local actions they could take to help address suspected illegal activity at a nearby property. Ideas included a neighborhood petition to request a posted speed limit, creating an email chain for quick alerts, and reviving a neighborhood watch; Chair Susan Culp expressed support for the neighborhood‑watch concept.
Town Clerk Chuck Schulze and Selectboard members said they had previously considered asking the Agency of Transportation to post a speed limit but that state rules require a traffic engineering study before limits can be imposed or reduced. A resident offered the use of a driveway for undercover surveillance; deputies acknowledged the offer and noted the house’s seclusion complicates discreet operations.
Law enforcement cautioned residents not to publicize undercover efforts: Lt. Winn said surveillance-car presence will not be announced and asked residents not to discuss sightings. Officers encouraged precise reporting of suspicious activity and said coordinated neighborhood documentation of traffic patterns can aid investigations.
