Cheryl Stewart, chair of the Ethics Review Commission, told the joint work session the commission has met monthly since January and is wrapping up a review of the city's ethics ordinances.
"So what we wanna do is give you an overview of what we've accomplished since we've been able to meet," Stewart said, summarizing the commission's work on ordinance review, complaint forms and meeting cadence. She said the commission plans to finish its review in September and anticipates presenting formal recommendations to council in early 2027.
Stewart said commissioners decided to meet monthly for now because the city charter's minimum requirement of one meeting per year would not allow the group to complete its work. She also said the commission has been examining the complaint form and other administrative procedures and will submit suggested changes through council and the city attorney.
Vice Chair Kyle Parkinson, who identified himself during introductions, took part in the discussion about next steps, and members agreed to meet again with legal counsel to assess authority and implementation options. The commission plans to present its recommended ordinance changes to the council after completing its September meeting.
