Commission says city council praised DEIB funding request; full budget still pending

Chair Florina Sabella and Commissioner Eric Bell told the commission that their presentation to the July 17 City Council work session was positively received and that the council supported the commission's budget request.
"They really appreciated the due diligence that we put in as a commission to make sure that every single item that we listed that had a dollar assigned to it had a purpose and how we were going to measure the outcomes," Sabella said, summarizing feedback from council. Staff liaison Christie clarified that while the commission's request was approved to be placed into council's line items, the full general fund must still be approved by the council; by law the general fund must be finalized by Sept. 8.
Commissioners emphasized their intention to measure and report the outcomes tied to budgeted items and said the commission will continue to coordinate with council and staff as the budget process proceeds.
