Council hears staff updates on parks, road reconstruction projects and new 'safe-haven' public-safety measures

Public works staff told council that phase 1 and 2 of a multi-street reconstruction program are complete and that Phase 3 should begin in spring 2026. Staff said Denton County will provide 50% of funding for two major projects — Highland Shores Boulevard and Highland Village Road — through a voter-approved bond match. The council also heard that the utility division’s annual water-disinfection conversion saved nearly 20,000,000 gallons during peak demand last year.
Public-safety staff described a new "safe haven" posture that includes a drone program for large events and replacement of outdoor warning sirens for broader coverage. Staff highlighted community outreach such as safety pop-ins, toy drives and first-responder recognition programs.
