Council approves $750,000 purchase to replace public-safety hyperconverged system

Kishla Penney, the city's chief information officer, briefed the council on a proposed hyperconverged infrastructure for the public-safety data center to replace the existing Dell VxRail system. Penney said the existing system has been in use about five years and the proposed replacement is expected to have a similar five-year useful life; the system will remain housed in the public-safety data center and be protected by the city's cyber security layers and backup power systems.
A member of the public questioned whether the vendor's fee would cover salaries and long-term maintenance; staff explained the $750,000 purchase is a capital replacement funded from the city's capital improvement (CIP) fund, not the general fund, and that the management and staffing for public safety continuity would be addressed through existing operations. The consent agenda that included this item passed on a voice vote recorded as 8–0.
