Coach asks Calvert County to fund a general-use synthetic field at Howling Point

Don Garrett, a coach for the Challengers League and a board member with Calvert County American Little League, told commissioners the county lacks a general-use synthetic field and urged that the Howling Point master plan include one that serves both special-needs and general-use teams.
Garrett described existing conditions at Field 4 — soft spots around home plate, inaccessible dugouts and a surface that makes it difficult for some players to use the field. "So what I'm proposing is... have a synthetic field... not just contained like that... make it a general baseball field that... both not us as special needs... team can play, but also the community as a whole," he said.
He asked county parks staff to contact him and said parents and volunteers would help pursue funding; Garrett said he had shared photos with staff and volunteers and asked what steps the board and parks could take to pursue funding and build the county's first synthetic field.
The board acknowledged his request; no funding decision was made during the meeting.
