Calvert County proclaims December ‘Designated Driver Month’ and honors officers

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing the countywide designated-driver campaign running Dec. 1 through Jan. 2 and presented plaques to law-enforcement officers with top DUI arrests this year.
"As part of that, we have the proclamation, but we also honor our law enforcement officers who have been out there... protecting the citizens of Calvert County and our roadways," Candy D'Agostino, coordinator of the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, said while introducing officers and Maryland Highway Safety Office representatives.
The proclamation text cited cooperation among restaurants, bars, civic organizations, the Calvert Alliance, the county sheriff's office and Maryland State Police in promoting impaired-driving prevention and urged residents to choose a designated driver and not provide alcohol to those under 21.
The board presented plaques to officers from the Calvert County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police; names announced by the Alliance included DFC Richard McCourt Jr., Dylan DeSantis, Casey Hill, Savannah Huey and Herschel Wilder, among others. Staff and the board also invited participants to step forward for a photo following the proclamation.
