Henderson officials weigh changes to fire-call billing after spike in calls

Ald. Keith Smith told the board Aug. 14 that the number of fire calls on the July list was the longest he recalls seeing. Fire Chief Doug Acred said calls for service are "well beyond" the totals listed in the paperwork and explained the city’s approach to billing: the first false call at a location is not charged, but subsequent false calls are invoiced.
Chief Acred said he would like the board to revisit the fire call rate and consider raising rates; Recorder Jim E. Garland said the entire policy needs review. Mayor Terry F. Bell said he had discussed call volumes with Mr. Sewell and that staff would evaluate options.
