Mayor Bell establishes Animal Control Advisory Board; board approves nominees

Mayor Terry F. Bell proposed creating an Animal Control Advisory Board to provide quarterly oversight of the city shelter and review expenditures for spay-and-neuter programs. He said the intent is similar to the Park Board structure and would ensure shelter operations and spending receive regular review.
Mayor Bell named Ald. Donna Butler as chair and listed members including Animal Control Officer Bobby Gary, Captain Ron Stewart of the Henderson Police Department, Diana Kirkpatrick Smith and Sheila Eckard as citizens, and Natalie Skeeter representing Friends of the Animal Shelter. Ald. Mark A. Barber moved to create the board and approve the nominees; Ald. Keith Smith seconded and the motion carried.
No budget allocations or ordinance changes were adopted at the meeting; the advisory board will meet at least quarterly and will review operations and spay/neuter program expenditures as part of its charge.
