Board approves first reading to align regional zoning with state definition of manufactured homes

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted on Sept. 11 to approve on first reading an amendment to the Regional Zoning Regulations that replaces the term "Manufactured Residential Dwelling" with "Manufactured Home" and updates the associated standards.
Building Official Brent Beshires told the board the Planning Commission had considered the issue and recommended the change after a state-level definition update. Mayor Terry F. Bell opened the public hearing and, receiving no comments, closed it. Ald. Mark A. Barber moved for approval on first reading and Ald. Keith Smith seconded; the recorded ayes were Aldermen Barber, Butler, Maness, Rhodes and Smith; Ald. Michael Phelps was absent. A second reading will occur at the next board meeting.
Staff characterized the measure as a housekeeping and compliance action to bring regional zoning language into alignment with state terminology and standards. The board did not discuss substantive deviations from the municipal amendment during the meeting.
