Henderson board approves first reading to update municipal definition of 'Manufactured Home'

The Henderson Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Sept. 11 approved on first reading an ordinance to amend the Municipal Zoning Regulations by redefining "Manufactured Home" to reflect changes at the state level and to update related standards.
Building Official Brent Beshires told the board the Planning Commission reviewed the matter in June and July and recommended the revision after state-level definition changes. Mayor Terry F. Bell opened and closed a public hearing with no public comments. Ald. Keith Smith moved to approve the ordinance on first reading; Ald. Donna R. Butler seconded, and the roll-call vote recorded ayes from Aldermen Barber, Butler, Maness, Rhodes and Smith; Ald. Michael Phelps was absent. A second reading will be held at the next meeting.
The ordinance changes were described as conforming Henderson's municipal regulations to the updated state definition and adjusting standards that had previously prevented metal roofing on some manufactured homes. The board did not debate the substance further during the meeting; the measure will return for a final vote at the next meeting.
