The Board voted unanimously to approve Resolution 2025-16, lifting the hiring freeze to permit the County Clerk to fill a Level 5 Deputy County Clerk vacancy. The vote followed a motion to waive Article 5, Section M of the Board bylaws to allow immediate review and approval of the Clerk vacancy and a Planning & Zoning shapefile request.
Separately, the Board authorized the Zoning Department to provide GIS shapefiles (the same layers provided to the contractor Williams and Works) to Planning Commissioner Vega for a seven-township Land Division Act project, at no charge to Kalkaska County and contingent on a signed release form that prohibits further sharing. Commissioners discussed whether the files could be extended to other townships but noted data availability depends on township zoning layers being in the county system.
