Vernon County board authorizes small team to reschedule or cancel meetings in emergencies

The board amended its rules so the county board chair, administrative coordinator and county clerk together have authority to reschedule or cancel county board meetings when circumstances beyond the county’s control require it; the change passed after amendment clarifying the three will have authority to act.
The County Board approved Resolution 2025-22 to amend board rules governing cancellation or rescheduling of meetings. Under the change, "in the event cancelling or rescheduling a county board meeting becomes necessary due to circumstances beyond the county's control, the county board chair shall consult with the administrative coordinator and the county clerk, and these three will have authority to cancel or reschedule the meeting."
The measure was discussed at length after members said the board had twice this year canceled meetings without a formal process. Some supervisors argued the board’s default should be to meet monthly; proponents said a small, nimble group should be able to act in emergencies. The amendment adding explicit authority for the three officials to act passed and the resolution was adopted by voice vote.
