County signs on to wildfire plan and Cooperative Wildfire System participation after hearing plan details

During the May 13 meeting commissioners approved participation documents that implement elements of the county's Wildfire Protection Plan and detail planned mitigation and preparedness actions.
Fire Marshal Kevin Lloyd described the Participation Commitment Statement (Agreement #26-21) and said projects include construction of fuel breaks, acquisition of brush trucks and water tenders, and new equipment for wardens assigned to areas such as Howell. The Cooperative Wildfire System form attached to the meeting packet lists a participation-commitment value of $1,409,244 and enumerates planned actions: mowing and creating multiple fuel breaks of varying acreages, lease payments for Type-6 engines, new builds, water-tender payments, skid-steer purchases and other equipment and preparedness items.
Commissioner Perry moved to approve Agreement #26-21; Commissioner Bingham seconded; the motion passed unanimously on a roll-call vote (Vincent, Bingham, Perry = Yea). The County's CWPP updates, provided in the packet, identify four focus areas, community risk assessments, and a multi-year fuels treatment and maintenance plan that county staff and partners will pursue.
