Council approves annexation in Mount Helix area and fills multiple commission vacancies

The La Mesa City Council approved staff recommendations to initiate annexation proceedings for three parcels adjacent to the city's boundary on the west slope of Mount Helix. Planning staff explained the parcels total about 1.86 acres, would be assigned a rural residential general‑plan designation and R1EP zoning, and would detach from San Miguel Fire and transfer service to Heartland Fire & Rescue. After a public comment period from property owners expressing support, the council adopted the resolutions and the ordinance votes carried unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting the council completed a slate of board and commission appointments. After white‑ballot voting the council named multiple appointees across commissions (Mobility Commission, Parks & Rec, Historic Preservation, Environmental Sustainability, Community Parking Commission and others). The clerk announced that Alicia Spivey and Dallin Young received a majority of votes and were appointed to Parks & Rec. The council recorded unanimous votes on the appointments as part of its consent actions.
