Tom Anderson, the county's Emergency Management Agency coordinator, told the Finance/IT/Tax Committee that his proposed 2027 budget includes a new line to pay a deputy coordinator. "I need to start paying Danny Neal as my deputy coordinator," Anderson said, arguing the role is needed so someone is in place if he retires or is unavailable.
Anderson described the post as a short weekly commitment: "Basically, what it would come down to is a 7 hour work week" and said the stipend would amount to "at least paid $6,000 a year in a salary." He said much of his department's operating costs (salary line items, gas and oil, office supplies, service contracts, telephone and radios) are reimbursable when the EMA maintains accreditation and completes required reporting, reducing the net local cost if paperwork is submitted on schedule.
