Box Elder County commissioners voted to approve Agreement 2620, renewing a lease that allows private use of the Tremont and Boswell Ridge properties as a firearm shooting range.
Al Smart, who described the range and its operations, told commissioners that "All active duty law enforcement and military are granted the the freebie to the range." County commissioners noted the range has reduced vandalism and discussed insurance requirements. County staff said the contract was changed to a five-year term at Smart's request and that the agreement leaves a $2,000,000 liability requirement on the operator while state requirements could expose the county to additional liability beyond that figure. Commissioner Perry moved to approve the agreement and Commissioner Bingham seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
The vote formalizes the county's approval of use of the property under the terms presented and will be implemented according to the signed agreement. Commissioners and staff emphasized continued coordination with law enforcement and the operator on access and liability.
