Vice President Josie Curzio read a resolution asking the Carmel board to officially recognize the semiquincentennial (July 4, 2026) and encouraged age-appropriate historical and civic educational initiatives across the 2026–27 school year.
"Whereas, 07/04/2026 marks the historic 250th anniversary... the Carmel Central School District Board of Education hereby officially recognizes and commemorates the semiquincentennial of the United States of America," Curzio read into the record and asked the superintendent to share copies with building principals to facilitate local programming.
Later trustees pressed the superintendent for detail on coach hiring and volunteer coaches. The superintendent said the district anonymizes resumes and uses a rubric to select interviewees, and that coach hiring could be adapted to that process because there are typically fewer applicants. He emphasized candidates' experience, ability to work with children and administrators, and alignment with district policy. The superintendent also described pending New York State reviews of the athletic placement process and said staff would follow guidance and report back to the board.
