The council approved an amendment to the city's general plan to change land use on roughly 2.2 acres from low‑density residential (LDR) to commercial, west of the Tuscan Hills and Tuscan Heights developments.
Staff explained that the Gap Canyon Parkway alignment supports a shift to commercial and that the property owner asked to bring the item forward now because of the final alignment. The planning commission held a public hearing and recommended approval 6–0; council member Steve moved, Austin seconded, and the council approved Ordinance 2026‑042 by unanimous roll call.
The change will allow commercial development adjacent to the planned Gap Canyon Parkway alignment and staff noted the property had been subdivided to reserve right‑of‑way for future road dedication.
