Council narrowly accepts petition to consider annexing 2.277 acres at 3430 E / 3930 S

The city council voted to accept a petition to consider annexation of approximately 2.277 acres located near 3430 East and 3930 South, despite questions from multiple councilmembers about whether the application was premature.

Council discussion focused on practical concerns raised by several members: whether the application improperly seeks annexation of a portion of an existing county tax parcel that could create addressing conflicts with adjacent Washington City residences; the potential need to extend sewer and other utilities (staff estimated hundreds to thousands of linear feet of sewer), and whether splitting parcels could affect Greenbelt qualification. Councilmembers urged caution and suggested a work meeting to resolve the issues, while others said the city should only decide on the petition before it and not pre‑decide later choices of the applicant.

Eric McFadden of Premier Design, speaking for the applicant, said the owner intends to leave most of the land in the county for farming and to bring in just a portion now to create lots for family. "They wanna leave the rest in the county to be farmed right now," McFadden said.

After an initial motion to deny the petition failed, the council ultimately approved the resolution accepting the petition by a 3–2 vote. The acceptance initiates city and county review over a roughly 30– to 60‑day period to confirm application completeness, address notices and resolve outstanding technical issues before a return to council for a final decision.
