Council authorized the Town Manager to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation (SVBF) to launch a Tourism Enhancement Program. Under the program the Town will provide $10,000 in matching funds and SVBF will match with $10,000, producing a $20,000 grant pool to be awarded in awards up to $5,000 per New Market business located within town limits or a qualifying nonprofit with an IRS Determination Letter.
Planning staff confirmed the program guideline will limit eligibility to entities within the incorporated town limits; Mr. Henry clarified for the public that the overall impact of the program would be $40,000 (town match plus SVBF match plus additional funds discussed). Council voted to authorize the Town Manager to finalize the MOU in consultation with the Town Attorney and to develop the program guide with SVBF.
