Kay County adopts Safety Manual template to meet April 1 deadline

The Kay County Board of County Commissioners voted March 30 to adopt a Safety Manual template provided by ACCO to meet an April 1 implementation deadline. Chairman Jeff Kreger said the requirement was raised at the last Circuit Engineering District (CED) No. 8 meeting and warned that failure to implement a policy by April 1 "could result in the county being fined." The board approved immediate adoption with the understanding that items not currently in place in Kay County would be removed and references to "Kay County" inserted where appropriate.
Tammy Reese, Kay County Clerk, said she "will distribute the policy to all county officers for review." The District Attorney’s Office reviewed the proposed policy and recommended edits; Sheriff Steve Kelley asked for additional time to review before finalization. The board directed that the policy be incorporated into the Kay County Employee Personnel Policy Handbook, revised after review, and that all county employees be required to sign the finalized policy.
