Saint George recognizes wastewater team for state awards

Scott Taylor introduced staff from the water services department and highlighted awards received at the Water Environment Association of Utah annual conference. He said the city's pretreatment program was selected as the state's best and singled out several employees for recognition.
"He was selected as the wastewater treatment plant supervisor of the year for 2025 throughout the whole state of Utah," Scott Taylor said of Jared Gentry, and staff presented awards to the pretreatment team including Juliet Curtis, Heidi Mathis, Daxton Ewell and Milo Farnsworth. Taylor noted Julie's Golden Shovel honor and her induction into the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers, and he said Julie serves as secretary of the pretreatment association for EPA Region 8.
Council members and the mayor took a photo with staff and thanked them for their work keeping systems operating and saving money for residents. Council members praised the department's proactive approach to preventing problems and the city noted the awards as a public recognition of internal operations rather than a response to an incident.
