Charles City officer proposes opioid education program for county schools; no action taken

Duane Ollendick, Community Resource Officer with the Charles City Police Department, presented an opioid-specific educational program focused on prescription drug misuse and impairment. Ollendick requested funding to purchase impairment-simulation goggles, pedal karts and cup-stacking materials and suggested the program could expand to other schools after initial implementation.
Board members discussed the concept and possible funding sources, and Ollendick noted staff would consult County Attorney Todd Prichard about whether opioid settlement funds may be used for the program. The minutes record that no formal action was taken at the March 17 meeting.
