The Hanover County Electoral Board completed its canvass of the April 21, 2026 special election after reconvening on April 28. The Board recorded that a total of 257 provisional ballots were adjudicated; 249 were accepted and 8 were rejected. Ballots were scanned, required paperwork completed, and abstracts signed and sent to the Virginia Election and Registration Information System (VERIS).
Director of Elections and General Registrar Teresa "Teri" Smithson provided the post-election operational update recorded in the minutes, noting the office's election-day performance: "Successful Election Day overall. No emergency or security issues. No voter complaints." The Board also certified that the closed session convened to review provisional ballots complied with the stated statutory purpose under Va. Code §24.2-653(B).
