The CSB’s April executive report described progress on a peer service program expansion and work to enable billing for peer services in the electronic health record. Staff said the Adult Outpatient SUD team visited a peer program in Goochland Powhatan to examine billing challenges and is working with the reimbursement team to complete the final billing steps.
Recruitment difficulties were highlighted: several promising candidates were disqualified due to barrier crimes and others described themselves as peer allies without lived experience. To address workforce needs, the CSB proposed creating a Lead Peer Recovery Specialist position and upgrading a 0.5 FTE peer position to full time using carryover funds and in anticipation of continued STEP-VA peer funding; the proposal was under review by County Administration and Human Resources at the time of the report.
