Huachuca City Council on Feb. 26 accepted news that the town has been approved for a $4,529,000 low-interest long-term loan through the Greater Arizona Development Authority (GADA) to acquire heavy equipment used by landfill and public works operations.
Town Manager Suzanne Harvey told the council this was the first agenda since the program returned in which GADA was distributing loans. "We will be able to purchase equipment that is badly needed for the Town and budget better for the purchase and maintenance of them," Harvey said. Council members discussed project priorities and the town’s approach to procuring and maintaining the new assets.
The council’s acceptance of the funding was recorded as part of new business; no precise purchase schedule was provided at the meeting. The financing will be used for acquisition of heavy equipment, which Manager Harvey said is needed to support landfill and public works operations. Council did not vote on individual equipment purchases during the meeting; next steps are expected to include staff-developed procurement plans and budget adjustments.
