Sheriff's Office signs five‑year Westlaw deal, leases thermal imagers, accepts multiple grants and authorizes K‑9 purchase

The Wayne County Board of Supervisors approved several Sheriff’s Office actions. Mr. Carr presented authorization for a five‑year Westlaw Proflex contract with Thomson Reuters (Feb. 1, 2026–Jan. 31, 2031) at a total cost not to exceed $279,488. The board also authorized a one‑year lease with the U.S. Department of the Navy for thermal imager and night‑vision equipment (March 26, 2026–March 26, 2027) not to exceed $8,000.
Several grants were accepted: a Child Passenger Safety Grant for $1,730 and a Police Traffic Services Grant for $9,204 (to be used for personnel costs associated with traffic safety details); the board also approved carrying over balances for DOJ COPS SVP23, Operation Stonegarden and SLETPP grants into 2026 for equipment and project completion. Separately, the board authorized the Sheriff to purchase a replacement K‑9 from Shallow Creek Kennels at a cost not to exceed $11,000, to be paid from donations to the Sheriff's K‑9 account (no taxpayer cost).
