Wayne County elections office reports 2,901 new registrations in 2025, flags younger poll-worker shortfall

Board of Elections Commissioners Mindy Robinson and Kristin Victorious told the Government Operations Committee on Feb. 5 that the office processed 2,901 newly registered voters in 2025 and handled 29,674 total transactions for the year.
Robinson and Victorious said 9,591 registrations were processed through the DMV in 2025 and that additional state agencies — including the Department of Social Services and Public Health — are expected to join a standardized voter registration system modeled on the DMV. The commissioners noted about 224 poll workers served in the 2025 general election, with participation lower among younger age groups and higher among older volunteers. Approximately 60,000 voter mail cards were mailed during the year.
The commissioners submitted the department’s annual report to the state and said they filed a Shoebox Grant application for reimbursement. The committee did not modify the transmittal and voted 5-0 on an associated authorization to set the hourly rate for an Election Office Assistant to match the early voting poll worker hourly rate.
