Historic commission seeks MOU with Old Campbell County Historical Society; council hears cemetery concern

Lila Ryan, chair of the historic commission, presented the memorandum of understanding proposing the Old Campbell County Historical Society as a repository for city documents and as a partner for economic‑development and preservation projects. “I’m Lila Ryan, chair of the historic commission, Chattahoochee Hills, along with Brian Gross, cochair,” she said when introducing the commission’s role and the MOU.

Staff raised a suggested clause to ensure city‑owned materials would return to the city if the society loses storage capacity or terminates the agreement; the historic commission agreed to add language addressing renewal and termination. During the exchange a resident drew attention to the Liberty Hills Cemetery, describing headstones dating to the 1700s and urging a coordinated cleanup effort; the historic commission and staff noted the concern and recommended capturing a follow‑up work session item to address upkeep and codifying maintenance responsibilities.
