MEDC issues RFQ for regional sports complex on Bloomdale property

The McKinney Economic Development Corporation on Dec. 16 announced a request for qualifications for a proposed regional sports complex on Parkland property near Bloomdale and Urban Park. A staff presenter told the board the RFQ is posted for about a month and staff are seeking development partners to propose an integrated sports facility that meets market demand for decades.
"There's 230 acres on the South Side Of Bloomdale. There's another 50 acres adjacent on the North Side Of Bloomdale," the presenter said, and added the RFQ had already drawn interest. He said the goal is "to get an integrated, sports complex that provides the types of facilities and amenities that are gonna obviously be in demand in this marketplace, but also, over the next decades."
Board members did not debate the RFQ at length; staff said they will review submissions after the posting period and report back. The board is expected to monitor any developer proposals and financing arrangements as they move toward a recommendation or agreement in a future meeting.
The item was presented during the staff reports portion of the MEDC meeting; no formal vote on the RFQ was recorded during the session.
