The Huntsville Town Council voted unanimously April 23 to approve an additional $7,000 for repairs to the access road serving the town's green-waste facility. Council Member Jim Truett moved the measure and Council Member Sandy Hunter seconded; the motion passed 5-0.
Mayor Richard L. Sorensen told the council the road "hadn't been improved for many years and it was in bad shape," and said widening and a thicker road base would make it easier for large trucks to enter and exit while reducing dust and noise for nearby residents. The minutes note the council had authorized part of the funds at a prior meeting and that the extra $7,000 will cover a thicker base so Post Asphalt can perform the work.
Council members discussed cost-saving steps documented in the meeting record, including securing road base locally rather than purchasing more expensive hauled material. The recorded vote lists Mayor Richard L. Sorensen and Council Members Bruce Ahlstrom, Sandy Hunter, Lewis Johnson and Jim Truett voting AYE; there were no NAYs or abstentions.
The meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.; Clerk Nikki Wolthuis signed the minutes. The record includes vendor estimates and a local supplier invoice added as attachments to the minutes.
