Board awards three highway contracts totaling about $3.86 million and approves sales tax projects

Wadena County awarded three highway contracts: $443,864 to J.B. Nanik, $2,135,331.56 to Anderson Brothers Construction, and $1,285,027.10 to R.J. Zavoral & Sons; the board also accepted Transportation Sales Tax project recommendations and authorized a re-monumentation contract to meet Minnesota Statute 160.15.
County Engineer Anthony Maule presented several highway bids and project recommendations on April 7 and the board approved the low bidders for three major projects.
The board awarded CP 080-004-026 (annual county graveling) to J.B. Nanik, Inc. for $443,864; SAP 080-618-013 (CSAH 18, Nimrod to Huntersville) to Anderson Brothers Construction Company of Brainerd, LLC for $2,135,331.56; and SP 080-623-023 (County Road 23 mill and overlay between County Road 6 and 12) to R.J. Zavoral & Sons, Inc. for $1,285,027.10. Commissioner Bryan Winkels moved to approve the awards; motions were seconded by Commissioner Bill Stearns (and Commissioner Jon Kangas for the SP item) and carried unanimously.
Maule also presented the Highway Department's five-year Transportation Sales Tax project plan and requested authorization to purchase culverts and signage for routes scheduled this year; the board accepted the recommendations. To comply with Minnesota Statute 160.15 (replacement of road monuments disturbed by construction), Maule requested and the board approved contracting Interstate Engineering for re-monumentation services at an estimated cost of $10,030, to be paid from the CSAH Regular Construction Fund.
