Board awards Miller elevated storage tank rehabilitation contract to BRZ Coatings

The Municipal Utility Board voted to award a construction contract for the Miller Elevated Storage Tank Rehabilitation Project to BRZ Coatings in an amount not to exceed $404,000. Staff said the project will include recutting and recoating the interior and exterior, spot repairs and replacement of the interior ladder, and the work is expected to start the month after approval with a five- to six-month contract duration.
Bill Smith (presenting) told the board the project went out to bid in December and opened Jan. 7 with 10 bidders; BRZ Coatings returned the lowest responsive bid. "Scope includes recutting the interior and the exterior of the tank and putting updated logos on 2 sides of the tank," Smith said, and staff and consultant Preece Nichols found nothing to disqualify the low bidder. The board moved, seconded and approved the contract award, and staff said construction should wrap by July under the proposed schedule.
The board did not revise the bid award terms; staff will proceed with contracting and scheduling with BRZ Coatings and report back as construction milestones are reached.
