The Town of Lyndon Planning Commission advanced a proposed downtown design overlay district on March 25, agreeing with consultant Heather Carrington’s recommended boundaries for the commercial core and directing staff to add two parcels on Broad Street.
Carrington, working with planning staff, presented boundaries that include Middle, Elm, parts of Church, Depot, Main, Center, and Broad Streets. Commissioners agreed the overlay should be adjusted to include the Freight House and Bag Balm Building parcels on the east side of Broad Street. Carrington said the proposed area falls within the Legacy Village Center and could be eligible for National Register nomination, a designation that may unlock federal incentives for historic rehabilitation but would also impose preservation-related restrictions. The Commission declined to include the North Main Street commercial area, citing National Register ineligibility for that block.
